In a testament to his dedication and mastery, Professor Evans Osabuohien once again graced the prestigious Global Environment Outlook 7 (GEO-7) Second Authors Meeting, held at the United Nations Conference Centre, Vienna, Austria from 15th January to 19th, 2024. This marked another significant milestone in his professional journey, following his initial engagement at the First Global Authors’ Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, in March 2023.

The GEO-7 report aims to offer comprehensive insight into global environmental events from various angles such as climate, food systems, biodiversity, land systems, and energy. Since its inception, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has strived to present a detailed overview of these events through reports like the GEO series, inviting experts from member states to contribute their insights.

As one of the selected authors from Nigeria, Professor Osabuohien’s contributions have been pivotal. At the First Author’s meeting, he was appointed to co-lead Chapter 2, delving into the dynamics between Economic Development as a Driver and Pressure of Environmental Change. Building upon this responsibility at the Second Author’s meeting, he expanded on the chapter’s activity outline, collaborating with esteemed global authors to develop a robust work plan for peer review.

A notable highlight of Professor Osabuohien’s involvement was his inclusion in the Behavioural, Social, and Cultural (BSC) group/task force. This provided him with a unique opportunity to examine the interplay between economic development and environmental change through the lens of behavioural, social, and cultural factors, aligning seamlessly with the overarching agenda of the global report. As an expert economist, Professor Osabuohien’s consistent presence on platforms like the UNEP GEO-7 conference plenary underscores his commitment to showcasing African excellence on a global scale. His participation not only reflects years of honed skills and research scholarship but also reaffirms his dedication to driving positive change in environmental sustainability.

Professor Evans Osabuohien’s continued impact at the GEO-7 meetings exemplifies his unwavering commitment to addressing critical global environmental issues. Through his expertise and dedication, he continues to play a pivotal role in shaping a more sustainable future for generations to come.
