As an ardent advocate for sustainable development, Prof Evans Osabuohien was privileged to be invited as a distinguished Panel Speaker at the 3rd International Conference on Africa’s Sustainable Development (ICASuD 2023) that held 18th and 19th October 2023. This conference, which was held in collaboration with Anchor University, Lagos, brought together a diverse group of experts, industry leaders, policymakers, and students to explore ground-breaking solutions for Africa’s development in a rapidly transforming world.
The theme of the conference was “Shifting Africa into a Production and Industrialized Economy Amid Global Socio-economic Disruptions.” It aimed to provide insights and thought leadership on how Africa can adapt to the challenges of a changing global landscape and emerge as a production and industrialized powerhouse.
ICASuD 2023 was not just an ordinary conference. It was a unique hybrid event, offering participants the option to engage either virtually or in person. This approach allowed us to reach a global audience and ensured that valuable insights and discussions transcended geographical boundaries.
The event was hosted by the International Centre for Policy Research and Industry Linkages (ICePRIL) in partnership with Anchor University, Ayobo, Lagos, serving as the physical venue. The collaboration between these institutions set the stage for a conference that promised to be both enlightening and engaging.
At ICASuD 2023, we had the privilege of bringing together a myriad of perspectives, experiences, and expertise. Entrepreneurs, industry visionaries, business leaders, policymakers, and students gathered to engage in rich dialogues and valuable networking opportunities. The goal was clear: to explore innovative ways to enhance sustainable development in Africa, foster continental competitiveness, and build stronger cross-continental partnerships.
Prof Evans Osabuohien speaking engagement at ICASuD 2023 was an opportunity to share his insights and experiences in the realm of sustainable development. He had the honour of contributing to discussions on sustainable practices and thought leadership. This experience was not just about sharing knowledge; it was about witnessing the potential for growth and transformation.
He would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the organizing team led by Dr. Ayodotun Stephen Ibidunni for extending the invitation. Their dedication and efforts were instrumental in making this conference a success.
One of the most gratifying aspects of this event was seeing the seeds sown in mentees and scholars blossom into something great. It reaffirmed the importance of mentorship, knowledge sharing, and the impact we can collectively make in the academic and professional world.
Efforts are in place to take the discourse further in an edited book project to be published by Palgrave Macmillan. The theme is Economic Transformation in Sub-Saharan Africa: Shifting from a Consumption to a Production Economy.
