When the vision to establish a research centre ignited during his postgraduate journey, Prof Evans Osabuohien sensed that a divine plan was unfolding—a series of preparations and refinements designed by God for the benefit of African researchers following in his footsteps. With the launch of DePECOS Institutions and Development Research Centre (DIaDeRC) in March 2023 and the unwavering commitment to periodic mentorship series (popularly called African Scholars Mentorship Network -ASMN) in May 2023, the mission is gaining unmistakable clarity. It is a testament to the years of diligence and dedication that have shaped him for the next phase of success.
Thus, receiving an invitation from the Institute of Food Security and Commercial Agriculture (IFSCA), Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), where he spoke on the topic ‘Grant Winning and Execution: Some Practical Tips‘ felt like a serendipitous moment. It was a great opportunity to share practical insights on grant writing in academia, a subject recently explored in the ASMN virtual bootcamp series.
The seminar, held at 30th November 2023, provided him with the platform to delve into the intricacies of crafting an articulate and winning grant proposal across various fields. The session concluded with a vibrant exchange of questions and comments from engaged participants and facilitators.
As he reflected on this experience, he was reminded of the wisdom shared by Martin Luther King Jr.: ‘If a person is called to be a street sweeper, he/she should sweep streets even as a Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He/she should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his/her job well.’ This sentiment resonates deeply, emphasising the importance of approaching every task with diligence and excellence.
In closing, he leaves you with this timeless reminder: whatever your pursuit, undertake it diligently and excellently. May God bless your endeavours.
Thank you, Prof Evans Osabuohien.
I would like to know more on the implementation of the grant after it is received.
