On 18 November 2025, the Founding Chair of DePECOS Institutions and Development Research Centre (DIaDeRC), Professor Evans Osabuohien had the honour of hosting Dr Florence Dafe, Senior Researcher at the University of Warwick, UK and Lecturer at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany. Her visit, facilitated by the Chair of DIaDeRC and Professor of Economics as well as the Founding Chair of Centre for Economic Policy and Development Research Centre (CEPDeR), Prof. Evans Osabuohien, marked a significant moment, one that blended academic collaboration, institutional history, and personal reconnection.
A Reunion Rooted in Long-Standing Scholarship
Dr Dafe’s visit held special meaning for the DIaDeRC Chair and the broader Covenant University especially Department of Economics and CEPDeR community. She first visited Covenant University in 2011 during her PhD programme, an experience that left a positive imprint on her academic journey. Welcoming her back after 14 years was both refreshing and deeply symbolic, underscoring the enduring value of academic ties that have been nurtured over time.
Her 2025 visit came within the framework of the ongoing collaboration between Covenant University, through CEPDeR, and the University of Warwick, through FINDEM Project, which Prof Evans Osabuohien happens to serve as part of the International Advisory Board with Prof Franklyn Lisk.
Expanding a Global Network of Collaborative Engagements
The connection between Prof Osabuohien and Dr Dafe extends beyond Nigeria. Over the years, their scholarly paths have crossed in Kenya, Germany, and the United Kingdom, including their recent engagement during the FINDEM Workshop at Warwick University in September 2025. These recurring encounters in diverse academic environments reflect a relationship built on shared intellectual commitment and a vision for strengthening research ecosystems across Africa and Europe.
Engagements at Covenant University
During her November 2025 visit, Dr Dafe engaged with faculty, researchers, and postgraduate students on key themes at the heart of contemporary development discourse. Her sessions drew from her expertise in political economy, financial systems, and global governance, aligned with the broader mission of DIaDeRC to foster research at the intersection of institutions and development.
Her presence also provided renewed momentum for the FINDEM Project–CEPDeR collaboration, enriching conversations on Nigeria’s payment systems and future joint research priorities.
A Visit that Strengthened Institutional Bonds
Covenant University through CEPDeR, continues to expand its global partnerships, connecting scholars and institutions committed to advancing development research. Dr Dafe’s return not only reaffirmed past connections but also unlocked fresh pathways for collaborative inquiry, mentorship, and knowledge exchange. She also used the opportunity to interact with CEPDeR Fellows and faculty members of Economics Department including the Director of International Office and Linkages (DIOL).
In line with DIaDeRC’s mission to strengthen scholarly networks, this visit also signals new avenues for engagement among members of the African Scholars Mentorship Network (ASMN). With expanding partnerships, recurring international engagements, and deepening institutional ties, opportunities abound for ASMN members, from research collaborations and co-authorship prospects to joint workshops and academic exchanges.
Dr Dafe’s 2025 visit stands as a testament to the power of sustained academic relationships, institutional openness, and DIaDeRC’s commitment to advancing research that shapes Africa’s development trajectory.
