Professor Evans Osabuohien Honoured as an SDG-8 Champion

Professor Evans Osabuohien added another feather to his cap when he was honoured by the Management of Covenant University an SDG-8 Champion. While presenting the award and Letter of Commendation on 27th May 2022, the Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University (Prof. Abiodun H. Adebayo) commended Professor Evans Osabuohien for his passionate and excellent service to the actualisation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations on Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG-8).

Drawing from the 2022 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking of the University, Professor Evans Osabuohien stood out among many who contributed to the attainment of the University’s achievement in becoming one of the Top Universities in the world. Professor Evans was also appreciated for his commitment to the university’s core values of sacrifice and responsibility, which has brought her to the forefront in the educational sector, in particular, and humanity in general.

In addition to the above stride, Professor Evans Osabuohien was appointed as a member of the Covenant University Committee on Sustainability. While inaugurating the committee on 9th June 2022, the main goal of the committee is to provide strategic oversight of the University’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), review the University’s current strategies, policies, procedures, and action plans in connection with the SDGs, recommend for approval novel strategies, policies, procedures, and action plans in connection with the SDGs, among others.


Prof Evans Osabuohien is a good team player, hardworking, intelligent and self-driven who demonstrates maturity, innovativeness and responsibility on any assignment. He is endowed with a pleasant personality and capability to work effectively in multi-cultural environments. He has executed funded research projects as an individual, team leader, and team member. He is astute in research, which has resulted in publication of four books and over 155 scholarly articles. He has participation in conferences/workshops/short courses across the world. He was appointed as the Head of Department (HOD) in 2016, emerging as the Youngest HOD in the University. He received a Double Promotion to the Rank of a Full Professor of Economics in December 2017, which made him the Youngest Professor in the University. In May 2020, he was recognised as ‘One of the 6 Youngest Professors Nigeria Ever Had’. He is the Pioneer Chair at the Centre for Economic Policy and Development Research (CEPDeR) as well as the Pioneer Chair for Regional Centre of Expertise, Ogun State (RCE Ogun). He is a member of many International Learned Societies/Professional Associations. He is a Visiting Professor at Witten/Herdecke University, Germany and Visiting Scholar at University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (June- December, 2020). He is the Editor of ‘Handbook of Research on In-Country Determinants and Implications of Foreign Land Acquisitions’ (2015) and ‘The Palgrave Handbook of Agricultural and Rural Development in Africa’ (2020), Handbook of Research on Institutions Development for Sustainable and Inclusive Development in Africa (2021) as well as the Guest Editor for African Journal of Economic and Management Studies (AJEMS) on ‘Labour Issues in Africa’s Agricultural and Rural Transformation I & II’ (2020).
