A call for researchers to ensure that what prompted their research investigation aligns with the inferred conclusion was the thrust of a presentation by a Professor of Economics from Covenant University and Chair, DePECOS Institutions and Development Research Centre (DIaDeRC), Professor Evans Osabuohien. He was of the view that researchers need to work at aligning their conclusions with the questions that necessitated the investigations and related findings.

Professor Osabouhien made the call when he delivered a paper at a research workshop at Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo, Ogun State, on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. The workshop with the theme “Conceptualizing Research Process in a Refreshing & Rewardable Way” attracted wide-range of academic scholars across various fields and profession.

In interrogating the sub-themes of research report writing; covering areas such as methodology and data presentation, analyses, results interpretation and discussion of findings, Professor Osabuohien said doing research in a prosperous manner begins with ‘mind-resetting’, embracing mentorship opportunities, recognizing the need to invest in the attendant short-term pain with the goal of reaping the long-term gain.

According to him, it is important that researchers should work at maintaining healthy relationship with colleagues and mentees, noting that rewards will come as a bye-product of such mutual investment.

Professor Osabuohien charged the audience to seek continuous improvement by subscribing to good mentorship sessions and leveraging same for good reasons, not exploitative reasons, in learning from those who have what is lacking in their quest to become a well-rounded professional.

In addition, he shared insights on building a refreshing and rewarding scholarly career in Africa, drawing from his extensive expertise and involvement in the ASMN bootcamps trainings over the years.

The one-day workshop, with the aim of helping both young and grounded researchers address contemporary issues relating to the various chapters of a typical research report writing, attracted a mammoth audience of researchers across different fields of study, among them were Dr. Jerry Kwarbai and Dr. Musa Dasauki, both ASMN Premium Members, who are also faculty members at Babcock University.

It would be recalled that Prof Evans Osabuohien was with some DIaDeRC Team members at the same institution in June 2023 for the ‘Sustainable Research Collaboration and Basic Grants Writing’ workshop organised by Babcock University’s Research, Innovation, and International Cooperation (RIIC), which was also a huge sucesss.
