In a quest to rethink the strategic role of a director in a number of organisations, such as the Founding Chair of DePECOS Institutions and Development Research Centre (DIaDeRC), Professor Evans Osabuohien went back to the classroom to be part of the 2024 Effective Director Seminar of the Lagos Business School earlier this month. He attended with the members of the Board of Directors of Covenant Microfinance Bank (CmFB) Ltd, where he serves as a Director and the Chair of the Board IT Committee.
The 3-day training, which was hosted by Lagos Business School (LBS), covered a wide range of topics from corporate governance in Nigeria, the attendant risky business of being a director, key governance issues in the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA 2021) and the nexus of the operational framework of a director and the board.
Professor Osabuohien said if DIaDeRC must operate at the highest level of corporate governance, it is more pertinent now than ever to have a clear understanding of these issues so as to evolve the best corporate outlook.
The seminar was tailored to help directors, corporate executives, and boardroom players come to terms with the rapidly increasing challenges and the varied interests of stakeholders in the business milieu while still pursuing the needs and aspirations of the corporate entity.
Participants at the seminar were treated to resourceful case studies by recognized faculty of experts with years of practical experience and involvement in over 25 different boards, the Effective Director/Board seminar is a concise and precise training that will enhance the knowledge and performance of boards and senior management.
At the training, Prof Evans met one of his mentees (Agboola Bukunmi) under the ASMN Premium Membership and one of his past students and alumni at Covenant University (Oluwapelumi Oki). Thus, it was a reflective moment for him to see the manifestations of the fruits of mentorship endeavours.
